Rain? Not yet.

We've been having tropical fronts coming through the area. There has been rain in some areas. However, we haven't had any rain on our property for quite a while, now. It's rained a mile or less away several times. It sometimes seems like where we live, we live in a bubble. We get dark skies and thunder rumbles. Then we get sunshine within minutes. If the whole day is overcast and there is thunder, we still didn't get any rain.

I was outside after work today and was wondering what I could do for a short time before dinner. So I started pulling weeds. The weeds came out so easily because the ground is turning to powder. As I pulled, the weeds nearly begged to get out of the ground. They were the most pitiful weeds I've seen in a long time. Mind you, we have very stubborn weeds here in SC. Nothing much phases them. They will die if you spray them with herbicide, but they come back. These weeds didn't look like they wanted to come back. I got one of my nursery beds pulled. This is the one with my herbs in it. I gave the remaining plants a good watering tonight. Tomorrow I'll do the same. Probably the next day, too.

We got our Lehman's shipment today. It was 4 Dietz lanterns that were on sale. Some replacement parts for lanterns and some wicks. If you haven't gone to Lehmans.com, you ought to do so. Especially if you love old-timey stuff for the house. You know...stuff that brings back memories from childhood. That is, if you're over 50. Also, if you need supplies for hurricane season which don't need electricity, this is the site for you, too.

I'm in the middle of baking red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese icing for work birthdays tomorrow. I wish you a good day!

Take care.

Nothing Much Today

Nothing much happened today. I had to go get steel-toed boots for work. We have to do a safety check walk-through this coming week. This is something we do to make sure the plant is safe. Being an admin assistant, it is weird to get out of the office and into the plant. However, this is good since I am a fresh pair of eyes to check for odd things around the plant. What is good, that my employers may not know, is that I was an inspector a very long time ago. I inspected plastics for errors in manufacture. I love picking apart things, which is good in a way. One way it is good is that I can pick apart and recreate a lot of recipes that others may not be able to. Actually, to toot my own horn, my recipes turn out better than the originals. IMHO. ; )

I pulled weeds from my itty bitty strawberry patch. Some of those plants have flowers and fruit. They really shouldn't have any since they are so small. I'll probably end up picking off the buds and fruit so the energy will go into making good plants.

I also made another enchilada pie and some ham and scalloped potatoes for dinners this week. I need to think of a cold side dish to make so we can have a variety and quick meals during the week.

I just came in the house and I am ready for movie night on Netflix. We LOVE Netflix!

Take care.

Today, On The Farm

We were supposed to have a visitor early this morning, so I didn't stay in the house. I decided to clean up around the yard a little bit. So I picked up puppy poo. Then I raked the River Willow branches from one sidewalk and put them in a burn pile. No visitor, yet. Then I got out the ladder and sawed off the dead stuff from the baby willow tree. It looks really nice now, but it's kind of bald. Like I say...dead is dead and it has to be removed. Then I trimmed off the dead branches from two Rose Mallow plants. No visitor, yet. Then I trimmed off a lot of the vines from the Confederate Jasmine plant. They were growing up into the weeping willow tree so I hacked them off. Still no visitor. So I scrubbed out the bird bath really good and filled it with water. Then I climbed the big willow and cut out all of the dead branches from there. There were a lot of large branches to cut. I carry pruners in one back pocket and a collapsible saw in another when I climb. I didn't get up as high as I'd like to have, but it will do for now. No visitor. I pulled some weeds from the flower garden. We have some kind of nasty weed here that has a tuber underground that looks like a white radish. It's a scourge! After that, I took a break and watched a little TV. Visitor came and left. We ate. I got lazy. End of day.

How was your day? Take care.
